One of the biggest milestones in surfing is moving from whitewater to green waves.

It's also one of the stages where many surfers become frustrated.

Some people attempt it too early, leading to missed waves, wipeouts and damaged confidence. Others stay in the whitewater far longer than necessary because they're unsure whether they're ready.

So how do you know when it's time?

There’s a point in surfing where improvement stops being obvious.

There are moments where everything connects, but they’re inconsistent and hard to repeat.

This is where many surfers get stuck.

Not because they need more time in the water, but because they don’t yet understand what’s causing those differences from one wave to the next.

Every year thousands of travelers come to Morocco to learn how to surf.

They book a surf camp, join a group lesson, rent a board, and spend a week in the water. Most leave with great memories.

But many surfers leave with the same thought:

“I had fun, but I didn’t really improve.”
