How It All Started

Local Surf Maroc was founded by Rachid Makoua, a surfer and coach born and raised in Taghazout, the heart of Morocco’s surf culture.

Growing up surrounded by surf spots like Anchor Point, Hash Point, and Panoramas, Rachid’s life has always been shaped by the ocean. He started out working in local surf shops and teaching lessons, gaining firsthand experience in every part of the surf world. Over time, he became a full-time instructor for some of Taghazout’s original surf camps — learning what worked, what didn’t, and what surfers really needed to progress.

He saw a gap between casual surf holidays and true surf education — and set out to bridge it. Rachid founded Local Surf Maroc to offer something different: professional, structured coaching delivered with the warmth, authenticity, and pride of Moroccan hospitality.

What began as a small, homegrown project has grown into a trusted coaching-first surf brand known for its personalized approach, educational mindset, and commitment to developing both visiting surfers and local talent.
