The two villages are only a few kilometres apart, share access to the same world-class coastline and are both synonymous with surfing in Morocco. Yet despite their close proximity, they offer very different experiences once you step out of the water.

For decades, surfers have travelled to Morocco in search of long point breaks, consistent Atlantic swell and year-round sunshine. What was once a destination known mainly among experienced surfers has become one of Europe's favourite surf escapes, welcoming everyone from complete beginners to advanced surfers looking to refine their technique.

But Morocco's appeal goes far beyond the waves.

Taghazout has earned its reputation as one of Europe's favourite surf destinations, attracting everyone from first-time surfers to experienced travellers chasing long point breaks. But one question comes up time and time again:

"When is the best time to surf in Taghazout?"

The answer depends less on the calendar and more on your surfing ability and what you're hoping to achieve.

The contest had been cancelled in 2021 and 2022 due to COVID-19 related reasons. In December 2022, the WSL released an announcement that the WSL QS RipCurl Taghazout Pro Search would return to Anchor Point in February 2023.
