Top 5 Beginner Surf Spots in Taghazout Bay, Morocco

New to surfing in Taghazout Bay?
These 5 beginner spots are perfect for your first waves.

Morocco’s coastline stretches for hundreds of kilometers, but not every beach offers year-round surf conditions. That’s what makes Taghazout Bay so special. With its consistent waves and a wide variety of surf breaks within easy reach of Taghazout and Tamraght, it’s one of the best places to learn to surf in Morocco—any time of year.

While the quality and size of the waves can vary between seasons (bigger and more powerful in winter, smaller and softer in summer), there are always options for those just starting out. At Local Surf Maroc, we dive deeper into surf conditions and seasonal changes during our Intermediate Surf Coaching weeks, but for beginner surfers, the key is knowing where to go on any given day.

Fortunately, Taghazout Bay offers several beginner-friendly surf spots that are ideal for building confidence, catching your first waves, and starting your surf journey in Morocco the right way.

1. Crocros

The Ideal Beginner Surf Spot Just Steps from Local Surf Maroc

Crocros, locally as Imouran, is the closest beach break to Local Surf Maroc’s accommodation—you can even check the waves from our terrace before your surf session. Once you're here in Morocco, we’ll share the story behind its unique nickname and local surf culture.

This beach is one of the most popular beginner surf spots in Taghazout Bay, and it’s easy to see why. Crocros offers a soft, sandy bottom, a gentle slope, and a safe, straightforward paddle-out—perfect for learning to surf white water or progressing to green waves.

With multiple peaks spread across the beach, it rarely feels crowded. This makes it ideal for group sessions, as everyone can find their space to practice, improve, and enjoy the ride.

We love using Crocros during our Beginner Surf Coaching weeks at Local Surf Maroc. The accessible green waves make it perfect for progression, and it’s always a highlight to watch our guests move from riding white wash to confidently paddling out to catch unbroken waves.

2. Devil’s Rock

A Friendly Beginner Surf Spot with Room to Progress

Just a few hundred meters from Crocros, Devil’s Rock—also known as K14—is the second closest surf spot to Local Surf Maroc. Despite its intimidating name, Devil’s Rock is a welcoming and versatile surf spot for beginners in Taghazout Bay. And yes, there’s a fun story behind the name, which we’ll be happy to share once you’re here.

This beach break is slightly smaller than Crocros but shares the same beginner-friendly features: a sandy bottom, easy paddle-out, and consistent white water perfect for first-timers. What sets Devil’s Rock apart, and why we love it for our Beginner Surf Coaching and Improver sessions, is its adaptability.

It offers ideal conditions for learning to ride both white wash and green waves. Under certain swells, it even transforms into a mellow point break—an excellent opportunity for our surf coaches to introduce guests to different surf spot types in Morocco, along with essential surf theory like safe falling techniques and reading changing conditions.

Whether you’re standing up for the first time or stepping up your skills, Devil’s Rock is a reliable and rewarding spot to surf.

3. Panoramas

A Spacious Beginner Surf Spot with a Scenic Twist

Located on the far side of Taghazout Bay, directly across from Crocros, Panoramas is another excellent choice for beginner surfers in Morocco. Before the modern developments in the area, a small road led directly to the beach—but the charm of the spot remains. It's believed the name Panoramas comes from the stunning view you get while standing on the rocky outcrop where the wave breaks—offering a true panoramic perspective of the coast.

This long, open beach break provides ample space for surfers to spread out, making it a great place for group coaching sessions without the feeling of crowding. Like other beginner surf spots we use at Local Surf Maroc, Panoramas features a soft sand bottom and easy entry and exit, ideal for those just learning to surf.

What makes Panoramas especially useful for surf progression is its changing nature. On certain swells, the beach break can morph into a mellow point break, giving beginner and intermediate surfers a chance to experience different wave types in a safe environment. It’s an excellent setting to practice new skills while expanding your understanding of Morocco’s diverse surf conditions.

4. Anza

A Reliable Beginner Surf Spot Just Outside Taghazout Bay

Located just south of Taghazout Bay, Anza is a surf spot named after the local village, which originally developed as a fishing and industrial hub. In the past, surfers often avoided the area due to nearby fish factories—but today, Anza has transformed. With improved infrastructure, cleaner water, and community investments like a surf club, skate park, and boardwalk, it’s now a thriving destination for local and visiting surfers alike.

Anza is a beach break with easy access in and out of the water, making it well-suited for beginner surfers. It’s also one of the most consistent surf spots near Taghazout, often working even when the rest of the bay is flat. This makes Anza especially popular during the summer months, though it can get a bit busy at times.

What sets Anza apart is its versatility. Under the right conditions, it transforms into a reef break offering A-frame waves—perfect for beginner and intermediate surfers to practice turning both left and right. That’s why at Local Surf Maroc, we often head to Anza when conditions elsewhere aren’t ideal or when our guests are ready to take their skills to the next level.

5. Camels

A Flexible Beginner Surf Spot Just North of Taghazout Bay

A short drive north of Taghazout Bay, you’ll find Camels, also known as K25—a quiet and scenic surf spot named after a rock formation that resembles a camel gazing skyward. You’ll spot it clearly when heading back toward Taghazout after your session.

Camels is a beach break with a soft sandy bottom and easy entry and exit, making it another great option for beginner surfers in Morocco. What makes this spot particularly useful for surf coaching is its long stretch of beach with multiple peaks. The waves are smaller and gentler the farther you move away from the main peak, ideal for those just starting out. Closer to the peak, the waves gain more power, offering a natural challenge for those ready to push their skills.

Under certain swell directions, Camels can also behave like a point break, giving surfers a different kind of wave to experience—perfect for introducing surf theory in real-time. And when the rest of Taghazout Bay gets too big or powerful, Camels often remains manageable, making it a go-to spot during bigger swells.

At Local Surf Maroc, we love bringing our beginner and progressor guests to Camels for its space, variety, and reliability—no matter what the rest of the coastline is doing.
