2026 Moroccan Surf Camp Travel tips
As we move into 2026, Morocco continues to be one of the most reliable and rewarding winter surf destinations in the world.
For many of our guests, arriving in Taghazout Bay means stepping out of busy routines and into a slower, more intentional rhythm: sunshine, consistent waves, and time focused on surfing well.
To help make your journey as smooth as possible, we’ve updated our essential travel tips for visiting Local Surf Maroc in Tamraght and the wider Taghazout Bay area.
Travel & Medical Insurance
Travel and medical insurance is strongly recommended for all guests visiting Morocco.
While Local Surf Maroc is fully insured as a surf coaching operator, any personal medical costs are not covered in the event of illness or injury.
Morocco does not operate a public healthcare system in the same way as many European countries, and private medical care must be paid upfront.
With increasing numbers of surfers in the water during peak season, accidents—while uncommon—do happen. Make sure your insurance covers:
Surfing and ocean sports
Emergency medical treatment
Hospital stays and evacuation if required
It’s a simple step that provides peace of mind and allows you to surf with confidence.
Medications & Personal Essentials
Tamraght has several well-stocked pharmacies where you can buy medication for minor illnesses. However, we strongly recommend bringing:
Basic pain relief (paracetamol or ibuprofen)
Anti-nausea or digestive medication
Any personal or prescription medication you take regularly
Having essentials with you can save time and discomfort, especially if something comes on suddenly after travel or long surf sessions.
Arriving in Morocco: Airport Security & Border Control
Agadir Al-Massira Airport is a small airport and pretty straightforward to navigate, and the arrival process is generally smooth.
Border control staff now commonly speak basic English. Typical questions include:
Where are you flying from?
Where are you staying in Morocco?
What is the purpose of your visit?
We send all guests clear accommodation and contact details in their pre-arrival email so you can answer confidently.
After passport control, you may pass through several additional security checks before exiting the airport. This is normal across Moroccan airports—no need to worry.
Airport Wi-Fi & SIM Cards
Free Wi-Fi is available at Agadir Airport, usually sufficient for sending a message or checking directions.
Before exiting the arrivals area, you’ll find:
Currency exchange desks
Duty-free shops
Mobile providers offering SIM cards
If you’d like a local SIM, we recommend INWI for the most reliable coverage throughout Taghazout Bay and surrounding surf spots.
Most guests find a small data top-up (around 1 GB) more than enough for the week, as all our partner accommodations offer fast, reliable Wi-Fi.
Airport Transfers
If you’ve booked 5 nights or more with Local Surf Maroc, airport transfers are included in your surf package.
After collecting your luggage, head outside the terminal where your driver will be waiting with a sign displaying your name and/or Local Surf Maroc. The driver will already know your accommodation and destination.
If you’re staying fewer than 5 nights, we’re happy to arrange a transfer for you in advance. Alternatively, official airport taxis are available outside the terminal.
Cash & Payments in Morocco
While card payments are becoming more common in Morocco, especially in larger towns and restaurants, Tamraght and the surrounding area still operate largely on cash. Small cafés, local shops, taxis, and tips are typically cash-only.
We recommend arriving with some Moroccan dirhams or withdrawing cash once you’re in town rather than exchanging large amounts at the airport, where rates and fees are higher.
Tamraght now has several cash machines with varying withdrawal limits, as well as multiple exchange bureaus. The easiest exchange offices to find are located along the main street.
Check-In, Check-Out & Luggage Storage
Standard check-in is 14:00 and check-out is 11:00 across our partner accommodations.
We understand flights don’t always align with these times. If you arrive early or leave late:
You’re welcome to store luggage securely with us
You can relax around Tamraght, grab food, or enjoy the views until your room is ready or it’s time to depart
We’ll help make the transition as easy and stress-free as possible.
We keep it simple
Traveling to Morocco for a surf trip doesn’t need to feel complicated. With a little preparation, everything runs smoothly—and once you arrive, the focus shifts to what matters most: surfing well, resting properly, and enjoying the rhythm of life by the ocean.
If you have any questions about travel, arrival, or your stay with Local Surf Maroc, don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’re always happy to help.
